Where Men Come Alive
to Men Alive Counselling. We provide Personal Counselling, Relationship and
Partnership Counselling for men and their partners.
It is a well known fact that men find it more difficult than women to
define their feelings and are far more reluctant to talk about them and
seek the appropriate help.
At Men Alive Counselling, we have a reputation in aiding men
and their partners to talk and discuss their issues in a completely safe, respectful and relaxed environment. We understand that relationship issues and all the other stresses can build up to the point of "no return"! Many men see themselves as weak if they go and talk to someone about their issues, when in actual fact the opposite is the truth, and then again, media being what it is,
and government agencies advertise the mistaken perception that anyone with issues may have a "mental sickness", again, reinforcing the fear of seeking professional help.
But lets be very clear, any life issues left unattended for any length
of time, will create physical and mental health issues! So to face the
fear and seek help is of the utmost importance.
We understand, that men having the perception of being
"hunter/gatherers, have concerns about seeking help, as follows:
They may feel shame; inadequacy or failure
Trust; focusing on the risk more than the
Loss of Power; feeling threatened by the
preceived loss of control
Communication; feeling inadequate for not
being able to explian their feelings
Men may be thinking and believeing the following:
“Suck it up and get on with it”
"I'm tough, I can do this alone, men don't cry"
just not normal to seek help"
"Feelings cant be trusted"
can gix this myself, I dont need to rely on anyones help"
will heal, she'll be right!"
dont have time"
"Im not the problem!"
"I just dont believe in it (Counselling)"
"Ah its nothing, its not a huge issue"
Counselling can be as simple as a chat to clear your perspective, to a long term resolution of lifetime baggage.
Realising fears or thoughts is freeing and, when
handled by the right person, can enable you to lead a happy, balanced and fulfilled life.
And we at Men Alive Counselling work hard to help men engage with themselves, become aware of their
own true reality and participate in permanent change for the better.
Relationship and Couples Counselling.
We enter into many types of relationships throughout our lifetime. Relationships are a very important and integral part of our journey in life; supportive family, friends and partners allow us to feel happy. There are, however, times when the happiness disappears, everything becomes strained, uncomfortable and, oftentimes, unmanageable. Because of the complexities of Relationships, there are times when there appears to be no answer.
There are many reasons why Relationships can become strained, but the most common reason is “communication”. When communication drops away you can expect to feel any number of the feelings below:
Within a relationship two or more persons are involved with their own perspective on live and events around them. Again, this perspective is taken from a lifetime of learning and expectations arise, which are generally quite high and create misunderstandings through a lack of communication or bad communication techniques.
At Men Alive Counselling, we endeavour to share with you the wisdom and practical techniques of good communication, conflict resolution, intimacy, effective listening, and effective sharing of feelings which are some of the cornerstones of a trusting loving relationship.
In the event you are trying to refer your husband, partner or
boyfriend to counselling, just remember he is more likely to be
interested and respond by whats in it for them; dont push, apply too
much pressure or threaten - make it a point NOT to criticise or judge!
We understand the desire to see change in a loved one, and this can
lead to applying pressure. Instead, aim to calmly and rationally discuss
your concerns, including how you believe counselling will help. Choose
the right time and place, then explain your point of view. Go to
counselling yourself. From our experience, men will quite happily join a
counselling session once the ice has been broken by the partner and a
favourable report has been received.
